  • Edmund Bealby-Wright wins Impress Prize
    NAW writer Edmund Bealby-Wright has won the 2010 Impress Prize for New Writers for his novel This Farewell Symphony. Edmund has worked closely with NAW Director Richard Beard, who says: ‘We’re delighted at Edmund’s success and the forthcoming publication of his novel.'

    Each year, an anthology of new writing from members of the National Academy of Writing will be published in paperback form. The anthology will be launched and showcased at a National Academy of Writing event.

  • Second NAW Day at Cambridge University
    Following the success of NAW's first visit to Cambridge in November 2011, NAW will be back at the University on Wednesday 15 February 2012
  • NAW Demonstration Event at Foyles 28th February
    In response to the success of the National Academy of Writing’s inaugural 2011 course, NAW is looking for twelve committed writers for 2012.
  • NAW Day at Cambridge University
    On Tuesday 15th November NAW will be in Cambridge. The Director Richard Beard will demonstrate the unique NAW textual Masterclass, followed by NAW Patron and novelist Frances Fyfield exploring her relationship with the craft of writing. The NAW Day is open to all members of the University, but places are limited.
  • NAW Anthology Launch at Foyles Charing Cross Road
    The Academy is delighted to publish a collection of writing from the first NAW London course on Wednesday 9th November. 'Book One' contains excerpts from twelve NAW authors, and this event at Foyles is an opportunity for agents and editors to meet the Academy writers.
  • NAW Patron Visits in London, Autumn 2011
    The Autumn NAW patron visitors are Terence Blacker (21 September) and Iain Banks (12 October). Both writers will be visiting the NAW at the FreeWord Centre in London as part of the final session of NAW's year.
  • NAW Patron Visits in London, Summer 2011
    Minette Walters and Elizabeth Buchan generously answered NAW writer questions in the first session of the NAW's London course. In July the Academy is looking forward to welcoming Kapka Kassabova and David Almond.
  • NAW Patron Visits in Birmingham, Spring 2011
    Catherine O'Flynn, the Legend Press and Linda Grant will be visiting Birmingham City University to take part in the National Academy of Writing Days in Birmingham this Spring. These events are open to National Academy of Writing members and students on the MA in Writing course at BCU.
  • NAW Patron Visits in Birmingham, Autumn 2010
    Nick Yapp, Trezza Azzopardi and Jill Dawson will be visiting Birmingham City University to take part in the National Academy of Writing Days in Birmingham this autumn. These events are open to National Academy of Writing members and students on the MA in Writing course at BCU.

    This event is an opportunity for current students on the BCU MA in Writing, in association with the National Academy of Writing, to read from their work in progress.
